If you're called to active duty, the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) protects you from certain financial burdens on accounts you already have. Here's what that means for your Tilt account.
What is SCRA?
The Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) is a federal law that provides financial relief to active duty servicemembers. For credit products you opened before entering active duty, it caps the interest rate you can be charged.
What SCRA benefits apply to Tilt accounts?
If you opened your Tilt credit account before your active duty start date, you may be eligible for:
0% APR on your account, applied from your active duty start date
Fee waivers on your account
Interest refund for any interest you paid after your active duty start date — we'll send this to your linked bank account via ACH within 2–3 business days These benefits apply to Tilt credit products including Cash Advance+, Thrive line of credit, and the Tilt Credit Card.
If you applied for a Tilt account while already on active duty, different rules apply.
How to request SCRA benefits
Contact us with your name, the account you're requesting benefits for, and your active duty start date. You can also send a written request by mail.
We'll verify your active duty status through the official Department of Defense (DoD) database.
Once confirmed, we'll apply the 0% APR and fee waiver to your account and send a confirmation email.
If you're owed an interest or fee refund, we'll send it to your linked bank account. Funds typically arrive within 2–3 business days.
If you're in the Reserves or National Guard
Reserve and National Guard members may not appear in the standard DoD database right away. If we can't confirm your status there, we'll ask you to provide one of the following documents instead:
Leave Earning Statement (LES)
Orders or Mobilization letter
Letter from your Commanding Officer or Unit
Military ID (with DoD number)
National Guard Bureau (NGB) Form
Once we can confirm your status, we'll apply the benefits from your notification date.
Why your request might not be approved
SCRA benefits may not apply if:
Your Tilt account was opened after your active duty start date (exceptions apply for residents of Ohio, Louisiana, and Pennsylvania)
We're unable to confirm active duty status through the Department of Defense database or the documentation you provided If your request isn't approved and you believe that's an error, contact us with any additional documentation. We'll review it with you.
Frequently asked questions
Can I pause my repayments during deployment? For SCRA-covered borrowers, Tilt reduces your interest rate to 0% and waives certain fees so you won't be charged any new interest while you're on active duty. Your principal balance is still owed, but you won't fall behind due to interest building up. If you're concerned about making payments during deployment, contact us and we'll work through your options with you.
How to manage autopay during deployment? Once SCRA benefits are applied, your 0% APR means your payment amounts will reflect no interest charges. If you need to update your autopay settings, linked external bank account, or payment schedule before or during deployment, contact us and we'll help you get it sorted before you leave.
Can I close my account during deployment? You can contact us at any time to discuss your account options. We'd recommend reaching out before deployment so we can walk through what makes sense for your situation as closing a credit account can affect your credit profile, and we want to make sure you have the full picture before deciding. Contact us and we'll help you get it sorted
Does requesting SCRA benefits affect my credit score? No. Requesting or receiving SCRA benefits does not impact your credit score.
How do I receive my refund? If you're owed a refund, we'll process it as a direct deposit to your linked external bank account (ACH).
What if my refund doesn't arrive? If the ACH transfer to your linked external bank account fails, we’ll reach out to see if we can issue a physical check to your verified address on file or apply a credit directly to your account balance. You can also contact us to update your linked external bank account information.
When do SCRA benefits end? Benefits apply for the duration of your active duty service.
What about my other Tilt features during deployment? For questions about managing autopay, subscription, or other account features while deployed, contact us directly and we'll work through your situation with you.
Thank you for your service.
